Best Leg Exercises: How walking tones your body
One of the best leg exercises is walking. You probably already know this but I love walking! It has helped me so much on my journey to lead a healthier lifestyle and lose some weight. I am by no means an expert but I have researched a lot about walking. One of the things I’ve learned is that walking tones your body.
Walking is great for toning you up. Walking tones so many different parts of your body. Walking tones your thighs. Walking tones your legs. Walking tones your calves. Walking tones your bum. Walking tones your ads and reduces belly fat. Walking strengthens your core. Walking with tone your waist. Walking will even tone your arms and get rid of your bingo wings if you swing those arms!
It is most certainly the best fitness regime I have ever done and to top it all off, I don’t even feel like I’m exercising! Walking can tone your body because it burns calories and it boosts your fitness levels. It’s also the type of exercise that you truly can fit in to your daily routine. You don’t need to spend tons of money on it and you don’t need to spend hours sweating in some horrible gym where you feel self conscious.
It really is true that walking can tone your body. Below I’ve listed all the places that walking will tone. No matter what part of your body you want to tone, walking will help you get there. Just read on and see.
Walking will tone your arms
When walking if you swing your arms this engages your whole body from your arms, your core, your waist and your lower body too! It’s a very simple process, the more you swing your arms and the faster the more your body will burn fat, burn more calories and tone those arms up in no time at all.
If you’d really like to work your arms and shoulders you could opt to carry small hand or wrist weights to get more out of your walking. It’s not necessary but if you want to push yourself just go for it!
Walking will tone your bum
Walking will tone your bum but if you really want to increase the work then walking up hills, stairs or inclines will help burn and tone your glutes even more.
There are so many names for your bum / butt. These are just two or you could refer to it as your glutes or your gluteus maximum! Whatever you call it they work and tone better on hills as these muscles are no longer supported by your legs they have to work that bit harder.
All you need to do is find a walking route that includes hills or steps. Walking up hill requires your glute muscles to activate and work harder. Working the muscles will help tone your bum. If you can’t find any hills or inclines on your usual walk you could try doing some bum exercises before your walk. This will get them working and they will continue to work even if you are just doing your usual walking route.
Walking will tone your abs and reduce belly fat
It really is true that walking will tone your abs and walking will reduce belly fat. So if you are looking to reduce belly fat, have a flatter stomach then walking will help you achieve that. After all your core muscles are what supports the body, helps to stablise your pelvis and helps you balance. The act of walking will tone your abs and reduce belly fat because you are exercising. As you exercise you burn calories and fat. As that percentage of fat decreases you will lose some from your belly too. It will also shed fat from other areas which is great.
Walking will tone your waist
Inches will come off your waist walking. Also if you pull in your tummy muscles as you walk and lift your rib cage it will activate the transverse abdominal muscles. Doing this will help support your back, keep you up straight and will whittle away that waist. It’s recommended though you should also walk with your gaze forward, back straight and avoid leaning forward. Relax your shoulders too. Walking can put a strain on your neck muscles if you’re not relaxed.
Walking will tone your thighs
The quads are the group of muscles at the front of our thighs which run from our hips right to our knees. They are a big group of muscles indeed. They work together when walking to bend your knee and flex your hips. If these muscles aren’t working then it’s highly unlikely you could lift your foot of the ground at all
There’s one part of my body where I carry the most fat and it’s my thighs and bum. I only have to look at a chocolate biscuit and it heads straight to my thighs! Never fear though, walking helps to tone your thighs. Walking up steps or up a hill or incline tones the thighs and bum and it burns a lot of calories.
Reducing your calorie intake coupled with walking, you will see an overall reduction in your body weight and walking up hill will also target those thighs too. You see walking up hill requires a higher intensity and your quads will respond by working harder which in turn will burn significantly more calories than if you were walking on a flat surface. Of course the more walking you do up hill or on an incline the greater it will be for toning your thighs and legs.
It’s not just your quads that would get a work out. The muscle in your lower leg will also benefit. As you lift your foot of the ground your shins, calf and foot muscles will be working too. The more you walk the stronger they will become and more toned too.
As you can see walking does tone your body. It works so many parts of of your body and tones so many differnt parts – toning the arms, tummy, legs, quads, calves, shins, hamstrings and waist to name but a few. Mix your walk walk with going up hill and your glutes / bum / butt will reap the rewards with it too toning up. Of course not forgetting your tummy / core muscles too. They love to get in on the act and will help you stay strong and keep a good posture as you walk. And don’t forget that walking also benefits your health in so many ways too.
I really do favor walking as the best exercise for me. I do think if you want to start toning your body then you can’t go wrong with walking. It has so many toning benefits with the addition of burning calories. I highly recommend you give walking a go. Don’t worry though you won’t end up with lots of bulky muscles. Although did you know that muscles takes up less room that any fat you are carrying? Also muscles doesn’t jiggle which is a bonus.
